Key takeaways

  • Best overall: Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, rated Five-Star by Forbes Travel Guide in 2026, on AAA's 2026 Five Diamond list, and holder of 2026 Wine Spectator awards at three of its restaurants.

  • Best all-inclusive for couples: Naviva, A Four Seasons Resort, a Forbes Four-Star resort on the Punta Mita peninsula whose rate covers all dining and drinks, including meals at Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita's restaurants.

  • How we judged rooms: Forbes Travel Guide and AAA both send inspectors who stay overnight and grade cleanliness among their standards, so their ratings are the closest thing to an independent check on room condition.

  • How we judged dining: Michelin stars, Wine Spectator Restaurant Awards and AAA's 2026 Top 10 Mexico Restaurants list.

  • Rate basis varies: four of the eight resorts are all-inclusive, and the rest offer à la carte dining.

Mexico holiday resorts with clean rooms and good dining

Clean rooms and good food are hard to judge from a resort's own website. Photos don't show housekeeping, and every menu reads well online.

There are better signals. Forbes Travel Guide says its inspectors stay anonymously for several nights and assess up to 900 standards, including cleanliness and guest comfort. AAA says its inspectors arrive unannounced to check cleanliness, comfort, cuisine and consistency, and stay overnight at Five Diamond hotels. On the dining side, the Michelin Guide, Wine Spectator and AAA each publish restaurant awards that a resort can't buy.

Every resort below holds a Forbes Travel Guide star rating or AAA Five Diamond status, along with a named dining award, chef or kitchen. We put the two signals side by side so you can weigh them yourself.

It opened in 1999 on a private peninsula about 45 minutes from Puerto Vallarta's airport and, according to the resort, has 177 casita-style rooms and suites plus villas and beach homes.

How to check room standards and dining before you book

  • Look up the Forbes and AAA ratings. Both are published on the rating bodies' own websites, and both involve inspectors staying at the hotel.

  • Don't confuse a Michelin Key with a star. Keys rate the hotel stay, while stars rate one restaurant's cooking.

  • Ask what the plan includes. Whether a tasting menu or wine pairing is included varies from resort to resort, so confirm it before you book.

Frequently asked questions about clean rooms and dining at Mexico resorts

Which Mexico resorts are rated for both rooms and restaurants?
