Brazil's best luxury resorts and hotels for 2026

Brazil's best luxury stays are spread across a country bigger than the contiguous United States, from the Bahia beach villages to Iguaçu Falls, the Pantanal wetlands, and the southern Amazon. For an overall pick, Belmond Hotel das Cataratas is the only hotel inside the Brazilian side of Iguaçu National Park and one of only two Brazilian hotels with Three Michelin Keys. For a beach, Bahia leads, with UXUA in Trancoso and Txai in Itacaré. For wildlife, Caiman in the Pantanal and Cristalino Lodge in the Amazon are the strongest picks. This guide ranks eight resorts and hotels and gives each one honest trade-off.

Two things shape any Brazil booking. Distances are long, so most of these properties need a domestic flight from São Paulo or Rio plus a road transfer, and it's rarely realistic to combine more than two or three regions in one trip. The credentials also changed this year: the MICHELIN Guide published its 2026 Michelin Key selection for Brazil in September, naming 22 hotels, and one of the country's best-known resorts, Ponta dos Ganchos, now operates as Awasi Santa Catarina.

How we chose these resorts

The pink colonial-style building has 176 rooms and suites, a spa, and two restaurants, Restaurant Y and Ipê. It holds Three Michelin Keys, the top tier, for 2025 and 2026, and in 2018 it became the first hotel in South America to earn a Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star rating. 2. Awasi Santa Catarina

Explore Awasi Santa Catarina →

Awasi Santa Catarina occupies a private peninsula north of Florianópolis, and it's the property many travelers still know as Ponta dos Ganchos. It reopened under the Awasi name in November 2025 with 25 villas of 90 to 300 square meters, and it runs a fully hosted model: each villa gets its own guide and vehicle, and meals, drinks, and excursions are included in the rate. It's a Relais & Châteaux member, and the MICHELIN Guide promoted it from one Key to Two Keys in its 2026 selection. It suits couples who'd like every day planned for them.

Best for: couples and honeymooners who want a private, all-inclusive villa stay.

Awasi Santa Catarina: pros

  • Private peninsula with 25 villas

  • Fully hosted rate with a private guide and vehicle per villa

  • Two Michelin Keys, 2026

  • A little over an hour from Florianópolis airport

Awasi Santa Catarina: cons

3. UXUA Casa Hotel & Spa

Best for design. Trancoso, Bahia.

Explore UXUA Casa Hotel & Spa →

UXUA sits on the Quadrado, the grassy square at the heart of Trancoso. Designer Wilbert Das, the former creative director of Diesel, built it from restored village houses and new casas made with local craftsmen and reclaimed materials, and the hotel now has about 15 casas of one to three bedrooms. Its beachfront sister, UXUA Maré on Itapororoca Beach, opened its first house in December 2024 and was named to TIME's World's Greatest Places list in 2025. UXUA: cons

  • The main hotel isn't on the beach; guests walk or ride down to the beach lounge

  • No Michelin Key or Forbes rating, and fewer facilities than a full resort

4. Txai Resort Itacaré

Best rainforest beach resort. Itacaré, Bahia.

Explore Txai Resort Itacaré →

Txai sits on a former coconut and cocoa farm where the Atlantic Forest meets a long, quiet beach south of Itacaré. It has 38 rooms, including bungalows raised on stilts among the trees, plus the Shamash spa, two pools, and tennis courts. • Two Michelin Keys and a World's 50 Best ranking

Kenoa is a 23-key resort on a quiet beach south of Maceió in Brazil's northeast, built from natural stone and wood. Its villas have private plunge pools, and the resort runs a spa, the Kaamo restaurant, and canoe trips into the nearby lagoon and mangroves. It's a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World and holds One Michelin Key for 2025 and 2026. It suits couples who want privacy without a long transfer.

  • About 50 minutes from Maceió airport

Kenoa: cons

7. Caiman

Best for wildlife. Miranda, Mato Grosso do Sul.

Explore Caiman →

Caiman is a working cattle ranch in the southern Pantanal, the world's largest tropical wetland, with a small group of lodges and a private villa. It's home to the Onçafari project, which has habituated wild jaguars to safari vehicles and made sightings far more likely. Guests also go on night drives, horseback rides, and birding outings. Condé Nast Traveller named it to its Gold List in 2025, the only Brazilian hotel on that year's list. For a safari closer to home than Africa, it's the first call.

Best for: travelers who want jaguars and a safari-style stay.

Caiman: pros

  • Onçafari jaguar project on the property

  • Full board with guided activities

  • Condé Nast Traveller Gold List, 2025

Cristalino Lodge sits inside a private rainforest reserve of about 11,400 hectares in the southern Amazon, and it was founded by conservationist Vitória da Riva Carvalho. • Fewer facilities than a resort, and it's hot and humid year-round

How to choose a luxury resort in Brazil

By region. Bahia is the beach state, with UXUA in Trancoso and Txai in Itacaré. The northeast coast adds Kenoa near Maceió. Rio brings the Copacabana Palace, and the south has Awasi Santa Catarina near Florianópolis. For nature, Iguaçu, the Pantanal, and the Amazon each need their own flight, so you'll want to pick one or two.

By type of trip. For a honeymoon, Awasi Santa Catarina or Kenoa. For design, UXUA. For wildlife, Caiman for jaguars and Cristalino for the rainforest. For a first trip that pairs a city with nature, combine the Copacabana Palace with two nights at Hotel das Cataratas.

When to go

Brazil doesn't have a single high season. The Bahia coast is driest from about September to February, and April to July is its rainiest stretch. Rio is hot, humid, and busy from December to March. The Pantanal's best from July to October, when water levels drop and wildlife gathers, with August a strong month for jaguars. In the Amazon, high water from January to May opens up canoe trips into flooded forest, and lower water from June to October is better for trails. Iguaçu Falls carries the most water from December to March, while May to September brings clearer views. Santa Catarina's beach season runs from December to March.

Getting to Brazil's resorts

Most international travelers arrive through São Paulo (GRU) or Rio (GIG), and you'll usually connect onward from there. Trancoso is reached via Porto Seguro (BPS), Txai via Ilhéus (IOS), Kenoa via Maceió (MCZ), Awasi via Florianópolis (FLN), Hotel das Cataratas via Foz do Iguaçu (IGU), Caiman via Campo Grande (CGR), and Cristalino via Alta Floresta (AFL). US citizens have needed an electronic visa since April 10, 2025; it costs 80.90 USD and can be valid for up to 10 years.
